Update 2 on Frisket: Back home in Brooklyn
Back home in Brooklyn. Of course I arrived in time for the worst of the heat wave to hit. This does make me miss SF just a little bit.
Both dogs are getting special attention from our vet.
Frisket has some sort of growth or bug bite or alien being in her lip which I noticed on arriving in Chicago on SAturday night. An emergency vet in Chicago looked at it and determined it wasn't an abscess (it's right where her canine tooth comes down so we'd thought maybe she bit herself). After keeping calm about it for 24 hours I decided to mildly panic and cancel the rest of my plans for the week and head back to NYC earlier, arriving mid-afternoon today instead of tomorrow night.
Our normal vet checked her out and took a biopsy (which we're hoping rules out a cancerous growth, but unfortunately Goldens have a high risk factor for cancer, Frisket and Sailor's mother passed away in December after a short battle with cancer at the age of 12).
Sailor, discontented with the attention Frisket has been receiving, deciding to pounce on a shard of glass when getting out of the car in Brooklyn. Ok, I doubt she knew about it, anyway, she goes to the vet tomorrow to get that removed.
[An aside: I tried posting this to Facebook and was blocked because it was too long. Seriously?]

Update on Frisket
Update on Frisket: if you missed my twitter stream (or facebook), Frisket (one of my dogs for the majority of people following me who don't actually know me) has a large swelling in her lower lip which I discovered on arriving in Chicago Saturday night.
Sunday morning I bundled both dogs into the car for a short but hot ride to the Chicago Emergency Vet center on North Clybourn.
Initially the vet thought it was an abscess. They tried draining it and, surprise, no pus. Doesn't mean it's not an abscess or other infection but that's not the primary reason for the swelling.
The vet suggested it could be a couple of minor things, or potentially a growth. Now I'm generally observant of the dogs and don't see how this could be a growth since it seemed to appear overnight, however the conditions are just right for not noticing things over the course of a week where I've spent most of the week driving cross–country in the car or otherwise sleeping off the drive in one of many hotel rooms.
For now she's being treated with antibiotics and an NSAID. Am going to keep to my original travel plan (in Chicago area until Wednesday a.m. then to Erie PA to visit some friends before arriving in Brooklyn on Friday) however I may accelerate the drive (so to speak) and head back earlier if she starts picking at it (so far she seems to ignore it) or if her condition/attitude changes for the worse.

Frisket and Sailor left San Francisco on Monday and so far have travelled to Reno, NV, Salt Lake City, UT and Boulder, CO. Today they drive on to Lincoln, NE before spending the weekend in Chicago.
From Chicago they go to Denham, IN followed by Erie, PA and then the final slog into NYC on the 22nd.
Here's some photos from their drive so far:
